The challenge with this piece was to try to make a table with a modern and contemporary line but making use of as much of the wood that the beam offered as we could. It must be said that when we rescue beams from old buildings, the first task is to extract one by one all the nails that are housed inside. Due to the advanced state of degradation of the soft iron with which they are made, it is necessary to remove enough surface wood mass around it to be able to remove it without breaking it. This process degrades these external areas of the beam quite a bit, so to work with "clean" wood we have to "peel" the beam on all four sides and keep the "heart".
For this design we made the entire structural part with the "heart" of the beam and we used the "bark" as an aesthetic component on the top, housed under a glass frame. We made the table legs removable for transport.
